Air strike in France – how it affects you

Strikes have been announced for September 10 and 18, 2025, causing major problems at French airports. Both Air France employees and airport staff are participating, which means that many flights will be cancelled or delayed

👉 Check here to see if you are entitled to compensation

Who is striking – and why is it important?

  • Air France staff: When the airline's own employees go on strike, it is considered an internal conflict. This means that delays and cancellations entitle you to compensation under EU rules.

  • Airport staff and air traffic controllers: When the strike takes place outside Air France, e.g. among airport employees or air traffic controllers, it is considered an extraordinary circumstance. In these cases, you are not entitled to compensation, but you are still entitled to rebooking, reimbursement and necessary assistance (food, hotel in case of long delays).

How does the strike affect travellers?

  • 10 September: Both airport staff and Air France employees have announced strikes. Some passengers may therefore be entitled to Air France compensation (Air France), while others may not (airport staff).

  • 18 September: A major strike by air traffic controllers and Air France employees is affecting air traffic. The same rules apply here: compensation for Air France delays, but not for the air traffic controllers' strike.
